EverGreen Escapes: a small business with purpose
What will travel be like in 100 years? It won’t exist if we continue with current practices. It is in the interest of every travel company to examine their practices and to strive to reduce unsustainable parts of the operation. Many in our industry have begun to their practices in regards to the environment. This is fantastic, but sustainability is not just about sustaining our environment, it is the people and cultures that depend upon the environment and sustainable economies. EverGreen Escapes strives to be not only environmentally sustainable, but also socially sustainable. Sustainable tourism benefits local communities and travelers without compromising the enjoyment of future generations.
Here are some ways we strive to reduce our footprint on the planet: - We strive for zero waste on our tours by using reusable water bottles, plates and cutlery.
- We actively recycle and compost waste we do produce and help close the loop by buying recycled products.
- We choose socially responsible partners who care about the impact of their operations.
- We contribute to the conservation of the natural, welfare and cultural heritage of the areas we visit by donating a portion of our proceeds to non-profits of diverse size and backgrounds.
- Sustainable tourism practices are visibly demonstrated and taught on all of our trips.
- We choose local, organic and fair-trade products when available.
- We promote self-propelled adventures: cycling, skiing, rafting, etc
- Transportation to and from activities are in fuel efficient vehicles running on Bio-Diesel
Our commitment is to constantly evaluate what we are doing and what we should be doing. Sustainability is a process not a destination. Your advice, feedback and questions all help us in this endeavor. Your business allows us to continue and expand our efforts.

| PENNY ROSE - Escape Artist
"I was fortunate enough to be born into my vocation – literally. I was born as the daughter of a ranger in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. My formative years were spent living in a State Park in Pennsylvania. I have turned my childhood wanderings through the woods into a full time job at the largest park in the City of Seattle – Discovery Park. I have spent several years leading programs in the meadow, beach, forest or wetlands for children of all ages (2 to 92) in Seattle’s crown jewel park – allowing visitors to discover their own joy in nature. While my natural history knowledge is extensive and well rounded from the intertidal zone to creatures of the night, my first passion is birds. As a Master Birder I have led trips throughout Washington State. An ideal birding trip with me is the chance for everyone to see a diversity of species, discover something new about bird habitats and perhaps “get” a life bird."

"As a child I dreamed of becoming an airline pilot and I "flew" around, on foot and on my bike, to points all over the world. In my teens I was fortunate to be an "airline brat" and began traveling extensively. Despite my having earned a degree in Biology as a pre-med student I continued my passion for travel, working at an airline right out of college. That's when the bug really caught me and I have never looked back. Through the years I have worked in reservations and customer service departments for the airline and, later, leading and directing those efforts at a steamboat company, a Hawaii cruise company, a small ship cruise line and a wholesale travel agency. All the while I have been privileged to log many miles of domestic and international travel, meeting wonderful people and experiencing diverse cultures along the way. I have also enjoyed exploring the world of wine and the fun of wine-food pairing. Now I am proud and excited to bring my experience and skills to the great team at EverGreen Escapes! I am driven by the joy that comes from knowing that we have been good and responsible hosts and have provided our clients with authentic and exclusive adventures, treks and tours. We look forward to planning your next escape soon!"
