Exploratory day tours are a ideal for those who are visiting the Bar Harbor/Mount Desert Island area and want to spend the greater portion of a day sea kayaking.
Begin the tour with a hands on safety/kayak lesson. Once everyone is comfortable and ready, launch from the kayak docks onto the waters surrounding Mount Desert Island. Start a six to nine-mile round trip paddle by heading into the Porcupine Islands. These islands are a wonderful spot for viewing an abundant variety of wildlife. While on the water, your knowledgeable and friendly Maine registered kayak guide/naturalist will educate you about the surrounding region and wildlife, while helping you further improve your kayaking skills and making sure you have a great time.
Approximately half-way through the paddle, land on a beach for a snack break and some mild exploration. After a refreshing break, head back out onto the water and begin the trip back. Be sure to take in the panoramic views of Mount Desert Island with Cadillac Mountain (1530 feet) towering above it all.
Examples of some commonly seen flora and fauna: Bald Eagles, Seals, Porpoises, Great Blue Herons, Osprey, Sea Stars, forests of Firs and Spruce.
